The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) published a scam alert drawing attention to bank-issued warnings about fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and other scams reported to the HKMA, with links to the relevant press releases available on the HKMA website. The alert covers The Bank of East Asia, Shanghai Commercial Bank, Chong Hing Bank, Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) and Bank of China (Hong Kong). Fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens were reported in relation to The Bank of East Asia, Shanghai Commercial Bank, Chong Hing Bank and Fubon Bank (Hong Kong), while phishing emails were reported in relation to Bank of China (Hong Kong). The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS messages or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS; customers who have provided personal information or conducted transactions in response to the scams should contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
