The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has alerted the public to fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens related to The Bank of East Asia, Limited, following reports received by the HKMA. The HKMA has provided a hyperlink on its website to the bank’s related press release. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks). Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through or in response to the fraudulent websites or login screens should contact the bank using the details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
