The Insurance Commission of the Bahamas has reaffirmed its role as a partner in developing the proposed Bahamas Climate Shield Project, which aims to strengthen financial protection for climate-vulnerable households, fishers, and farmers. The initiative is being developed by the Office of the Prime Minister Climate Change and Environmental Advisory Unit in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, the Insurance Commission of the Bahamas, and the Climate Finance Access Network. As part of that work, the Commission hosted a multi-stakeholder consultation and validation workshop at its headquarters. Discussions focused on ways to close the financial protection gap, including whether existing mechanisms in local financial institutions such as credit unions and cooperatives could be used to support faster recovery in the fisheries and agriculture sectors after climate-related shocks.
