The National Bank of Moldova said Governor Anca Dragu and National Bank of Cambodia Deputy Governor Sannisith Sum discussed negotiations on a memorandum of understanding that would establish a formal framework for cooperation, coordination and information exchange between the central banks. The talks build on bilateral engagement between the institutions in Phnom Penh in May. The proposed cooperation would cover monetary policy and central banking operations, foreign exchange, payment systems, banking supervision, macroprudential policy and financial stability. It would also extend to financial technology, innovation, economic research and statistical methods. The National Bank of Moldova reaffirmed institutional independence as essential to monetary policy credibility and a requirement for Moldova’s European Union accession, alongside continued alignment of national legislation with the EU acquis.
