Mexico's National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Financial Services Users (CONDUSEF) published its January to December 2024 snapshot of financial consumer complaints in the state of Tamaulipas, reporting 4,138 complaints, up 0.3% from 2023 and representing 1.6% of complaints nationally. CONDUSEF reported MXN 23.9 million recovered for users, up 10.1% year on year, and a 33.8% overall rate of resolutions in the user’s favour; 27.2% of complaints were linked to possible fraud. Credit cards, debit cards and personal loans accounted for 45.6% of complaints, while the most cited causes were unrecognised purchases, threatening or intimidating debt-collection practices, and unrecognised electronic transfers, together representing 31.1% of the total. By sector, multiple banking represented 58.8% of cases (2,432), followed by SOFOM ENR (12.8%) and insurers (11.8%); BBVA, Banorte, Citibanamex, Banco Azteca and Santander collectively accounted for 42.1% of complaints, with Santander showing a 13.8% increase from 2023 and BBVA recording the highest share of resolutions in customers’ favour (43.6%). Complaints were filed in 29 of Tamaulipas’ 43 municipalities, led by Tampico (16.0%) and Ciudad Madero (11.8%), and women filed 44.5% of complaints while adults aged 60 and over represented 31.2%.
