The Central Bank of Malta hosted a courtesy visit by German Ambassador Tania Beyer and a delegation from the Deutsche Bundesbank on 13 February 2026, with the meeting received by Governor Alexander Demarco. Discussions covered the Capital Markets Union, Malta’s role as a financial centre, the digital euro, and developments in the payments landscape. The German delegation included Burkhard Balz, Member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank, alongside senior officials from the Secretariat and the International Centre for Central Bank Dialogue, while the Central Bank of Malta was represented by executives responsible for banking operations, financial stability, anti-financial crime, and payments policy and compliance.
