The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission held its fourth 2025 meeting with the non-life insurance sector on reducing insurance complaints, focusing on disaster response, claims settlement practices and dispute prevention. The meeting reviewed flooding impacts across 10 southern provinces, with around 60,000 claims notified and estimated losses of about THB 15 billion covering motor and other property, and both total loss and partial loss cases, and called on insurers to accelerate claim consideration and pay compensation within prescribed timeframes. For partial-loss motor claims where the insured prefers repair rather than a cash settlement for the sum insured, insurers can settle via repairs up to 70% of the vehicle’s value on the date of loss. It also followed up on a number of unresolved earthquake claims and urged faster completion, and discussed arbitration trends in 2025, with 544 disputes recorded and recurring issues including process delays, late objections and security deposit requirements, alongside a push to use negotiation and mediation before arbitration.
