The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued a public alert after Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited reported a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen that were also reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS messages or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who provided personal information or conducted financial transactions via the fraudulent website or login screen is advised to contact the bank using details in its press release and report the matter to the Police.
