The Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan has announced that three denominations of New Generation Ngultrum banknotes will begin circulating from 1 January 2026, comprising Nu 100, Nu 500 and Nu 1,000 notes printed on a polymer substrate. Previously issued Ngultrum banknotes will remain legal tender and will co-circulate with the new series until further notice. The new banknotes will be distributed to the public through commercial banks nationwide.
