The International Actuarial Association (IAA) published a January news brief recapping the inaugural ASTIN Bulletin Conference at ETH Zurich and outlining 2026 governance and professional development items, including new committee volunteer appointments and a 2025 update from its AI Task Force. The ETH Zurich conference featured keynotes on e-values in risk management, trusting machines with risk, representation learning, and optimal life-contingent payoffs without insurers, plus 103 further presentations spanning AI and data science, climate change and mortality modelling, risk measures and insurance applications. For 2026, the IAA appointed Alexander Wong (Executive Committee), Yosuke Fujisawa and Kendra Felisky (Nominations Committee), Simon Curtis (Actuarial Standards Committee co-vice-chair), Lisa Ullman and Nicola Barrett (Actuarial Standards Committee members), Christiaan Ahlers (Insurance Regulation co-vice-chair), Laurence Frappier (Pensions, Benefits and Social Security Forum co-vice-chair) and Stephen Walker (IAA section delegate to IACA), and thanked volunteers completing terms at end-2025. The AI Task Force reported launching a global online community and learning paths, building an AI knowledge base and research agenda, producing case studies and guidance on tools such as ChatGPT and coding assistants, and developing a responsible AI adoption methodology covering governance, ethics, regulatory alignment and implementation practices; it also announced Kaggle hackathon winners Ryo Asashi (Negoto), Funky Turtles, and Tajmahal Ghaza Antoni, with wideflat receiving a special mention, using a three-stage process combining AI-assisted screening with human judging. The second ASTIN Bulletin Conference is scheduled at the University of Naples Parthenope on January 20-22, 2027, while the AI Task Force flagged a third AI Summit in Tokyo in November 2026 and an AI and data science segment at the International Congress of Actuaries (ICA) 2026 featuring 50 presentations. Other forward dates included the Young Actuaries World Cup finals at ICA 2026 for Western Hemisphere semifinalists Hannah Giliomee and Shiela Nicole Cruz, Eastern Hemisphere semifinal voting on January 28 at 6AM EST, AFIR-ERM webinars on 12 February and 17 March 2026, and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries questionnaire closing on February 15. Minutes from the IAA Executive Committee’s 20 and 23 November meetings were also posted for Council delegates.
