The Trinidad and Tobago Securities and Exchange Commission announced the winners of its inaugural National Secondary Schools Investing Competition, Invest.Learn.Grow, awarding securities-investment prizes to the top three students and additional awards to a school and teacher. Alario Andalcio of El Dorado East Secondary School won the first-place prize of $10,000 to invest in securities donated by the TTSEC, with Sydney Look Fong of Naparima Girls High School taking second place and $5,000 in securities. Antonio Andalcio of El Dorado East Secondary School placed third, receiving $3,000 to invest in securities sponsored by the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange Limited. The competition ran from February 10 to April 4, 2025 and was open to nationals aged 13 to 19, attracting over 349 students from 104 of Trinidad and Tobago’s 166 secondary schools. Students used the TTSEC’s InvestorQuest-TT.com virtual stock market simulator to trade stocks, bonds and mutual funds offered by fictitious companies, with prizes based on portfolio growth and meeting a minimum number of active trades. TTSEC Chief Executive Officer Kester Guy called for a more targeted approach to collaboration with education stakeholders and proposed codifying this through a memorandum of understanding with measurable success factors tracked annually over the next 5 to 10 years.
