The Bank of Korea’s preliminary flow of funds data show that the total economy’s net lending increased by KRW 63.5 trillion from the previous quarter to KRW 147.8 trillion in the second quarter of 2026. The rise reflected stronger net lending by non-financial corporations and a shift by the general government from net borrowing to net lending, partly offset by lower household net lending. Non-financial corporations’ net lending rose from KRW 20.8 trillion to KRW 67.1 trillion, while the general government moved from net borrowing of KRW 23.3 trillion to net lending of KRW 11.1 trillion. Net lending by households and non-profit institutions serving households declined from KRW 79.2 trillion to KRW 60.7 trillion. Domestic non-financial sector assets increased by KRW 1,690.8 trillion to KRW 16,460.8 trillion at quarter-end, while liabilities excluding equity and foreign direct investment rose by KRW 237.5 trillion to KRW 8,572.9 trillion. The sector’s financial assets-to-liabilities ratio increased from 1.77 to 1.92, including a rise in the household ratio from 2.60 to 2.78.
