The Vietnam State Securities Commission published an update outlining plans to strengthen corporate governance, financial reporting and disclosure across public and listed companies. Priorities include aligning the legal framework more closely with international practices, increasing board and management accountability, improving the quality and timeliness of financial information, and strengthening supervision and enforcement. The commission assessed that most companies remain focused on minimum legal compliance, while relatively few apply recognized good governance practices. It urged companies to improve risk management, internal control and audit, shareholder rights and investor relations. Audit firms and auditors were also called on to reinforce internal quality controls, professional ethics, objectivity, integrity and professional skepticism. The commission and the International Finance Corporation have issued the Vietnam Corporate Governance Code 2026, which draws on the 2023 G20 and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development principles. Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi directed the commission to consolidate the conference’s recommendations and study legal revisions and incentives that would encourage companies to move beyond minimum requirements. Regulators, professional associations and market support organizations were also asked to expand training and develop governance expertise.
