The European Central Bank published weekly assets and liabilities data showing total assets and liabilities at EUR 6.162 trillion, a EUR 24.492 billion decline from the previous week due to transactions. The largest asset-side move was a EUR 24.893 billion fall in securities of euro area residents denominated in euro, including a EUR 26.596 billion decline in securities held for monetary policy purposes. Partly offsetting this, lending to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations increased EUR 1.700 billion to EUR 28.206 billion and claims on non-euro area residents denominated in foreign currency rose EUR 2.012 billion to EUR 521.300 billion. On the liability side, liabilities to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations fell EUR 37.336 billion to EUR 2.373 trillion, driven by a EUR 39.241 billion reduction in the deposit facility, while banknotes in circulation increased EUR 2.934 billion to EUR 1.625 trillion and liabilities to other euro area residents rose EUR 12.723 billion to EUR 205.719 billion. The release indicates that annexes and commentary will follow on 2 June 2026.
