The Bank of Japan, acting for Japan’s finance minister, and the Central Bank of Malaysia have signed a third bilateral currency swap agreement with a maximum value equivalent to USD 6 billion. The agreement takes effect on Sept. 18, 2026. The arrangement allows the Japanese and Malaysian authorities to exchange U.S. dollars for their respective domestic currencies. It also allows the Malaysian authorities to exchange Japanese yen for Malaysia’s currency.

Bank of Japan signs third USD 6 billion bilateral currency swap agreement with Malaysia
The Bank of Japan and the Central Bank of Malaysia have signed a third bilateral currency swap agreement capped at the equivalent of USD 6 billion. Effective Sept. 18, 2026, it covers exchanges of U.S. dollars for domestic currencies and Japanese yen for Malaysia’s currency.
