The Canadian Bankers Association announced the creation of the Canadian Anti-Scam Coalition, bringing together major financial services, telecommunications and technology companies with law enforcement and the federal government to coordinate a unified response to scams targeting Canadian consumers. The Coalition’s first planned deliverable is a comprehensive national education campaign in fall 2025. Formed informally a year earlier, the Coalition is positioned as Canada’s first unified cross-sector anti-scam initiative, addressing scam operations across phone-based fraud, online schemes and emerging methods using artificial intelligence. Member organizations have committed funding and expertise to support the campaign and collaborate on prevention initiatives, with Canadian Bankers Association President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Ostler chairing the Coalition’s steering committee; the announcement referenced estimates that over a trillion dollars are siphoned from individuals worldwide through scams.
