The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert following a China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited notice about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens that were reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. It also advised affected individuals who may have shared personal information or conducted transactions through the fraudulent sites or screens to contact the bank using details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
