The International Swaps and Derivatives Association has launched digital, versionable documentation for physically settled over-the-counter derivatives referencing emissions allowances under mandatory trading systems in the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States. The 2026 ISDA Emissions Transactions Definitions are designed to allow more efficient updates as existing emissions trading systems change or new schemes emerge. The framework comprises a digital definitions booklet and accompanying confirmation templates. Users can incorporate the relevant version when executing each transaction, rather than amend relationship-level documentation whenever the framework changes, providing greater certainty over the terms applicable to individual transactions. The definitions are available through ISDA MyLibrary.
