The Superintendency of Banks of Panama presented a USD 27.4 million budget request for fiscal 2027 to support its regulatory and supervisory operations, including technology modernization, cybersecurity and specialist staffing. The Ministry of Economy and Finance recommended USD 25.7 million, leaving a USD 1.7 million gap that would primarily affect resources for technical personnel needed to address new regulatory and supervisory responsibilities. The budget would fund supervisory tools, artificial intelligence, data management and training in areas including technology risk, forensic auditing and bank resolution. Priorities also include updating the regulatory framework, expanding financial education and supporting Panama’s efforts to remain off international monitoring lists and advance its accession process with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The authority finances its ordinary operations through its own fees, inspection charges and regulatory services rather than central government resources.
