The Bank of Greece reported that annual private-sector credit growth accelerated to 7.1% in August 2026 from 6.8% in July, while total credit growth remained unchanged at 3.5%. Private-sector credit recorded a EUR 478 million monthly inflow, but a EUR 516 million outflow from general government credit left the total monthly credit flow negative by EUR 38 million. Corporate credit drove the private-sector increase, with a EUR 508 million inflow and annual growth of 9.4%. Total deposits rose by EUR 3.197 billion after declining by EUR 2.190 billion in July, lifting their annual growth rate to 9.3% from 9.0%. Private-sector deposits increased by EUR 2.965 billion, primarily reflecting a EUR 2.380 billion rise in corporate deposits, while household and private nonprofit institution deposits grew by EUR 585 million.
