In a parliamentary response, Monetary Authority of Singapore Chairman Gan Kim Yong outlined how the new Hedge Fund Investment Programme will select and oversee hedge fund managers seeking to establish or deepen their Singapore presence. The programme forms part of recently unveiled measures to anchor more asset management activity in Singapore, where industry assets under management have grown at a 7.5% compound annual rate over the past five years to almost SGD 7 trillion. Selection will consider the nature and scale of managers’ Singapore activities, plans to build local investment capabilities and talent development efforts, alongside investment strategies and performance records. MAS will monitor appointed managers against their developmental commitments and review fund performance to ensure the programme meets both developmental and investment objectives. It is engaging industry stakeholders and will announce further details when ready.
