The Pensions Regulator announced that the Department for Work and Pensions has made three appointments to its board. Ben Gunnee, TPR’s executive director for market oversight, has been appointed alongside new non-executive directors Tracey McDermott and Chris Hitchen. The appointments come as the UK pensions market prepares for changes under the Pension Schemes Act 2026, which TPR said will reshape the market with a focus on scale, value and good member outcomes. TPR also linked the board changes to broader system reform work, noting the Pensions Commission’s interim report on key challenges facing the system and saying the new appointees add pensions, regulatory and financial services experience to the board. Emma Douglas is due to join as chair next month. TPR also plans to publish a refreshed five-year strategy next month setting out the principles and outcomes that will guide its work.
