The National Association of Insurance Commissioners announced that the South Dakota Division of Insurance has officially licensed State Based Systems (SBS), making South Dakota the 36th NAIC member jurisdiction to adopt the electronic system for insurance regulatory workflows. SBS is designed to support end-to-end processing of regulatory activities, with integration to the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) to streamline core tasks tied to national uniformity initiatives. SBS supports functions including producer and company licensing, continuing education tracking, consumer services, enforcement and complaint handling, fraud reporting, exam tracking, and revenue management. South Dakota’s insurance director indicated the state expects to begin using SBS in summer 2025; SBS is already licensed across multiple other NAIC member jurisdictions, with Virginia licensing limited SBS services.
