The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA), through its Lake Zone office, delivered a briefing to Ilemela District leaders on implementation of the Universal Health Insurance Act, aiming to clarify local-government responsibilities for supervising rollout and encouraging community participation in universal health insurance. The session covered the roles of the District Security Committee, the Member of Parliament, councillors, and ward, street and village executive officers and chairpersons. TIRA said it will supervise implementation of the Act and its regulations across areas under its remit, ensuring health insurance schemes comply with legal requirements, member-fairness principles and prescribed standards, supported by ongoing maintenance of a database of approved health service providers and regular inspections of health insurance schemes.
