The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on applied cybersecurity research tailored to Hong Kong’s financial sector. The MoU sets a framework to advance cybersecurity research and knowledge, develop practical applications, raise awareness of emerging threats, and foster specialised talent. Joint work will explore innovative supervisory technology (Suptech) and regulatory technology (Regtech) solutions, including using the latest large language models, with the aim of enhancing the HKMA’s supervisory capabilities and strengthening sector-wide cybersecurity resilience. The partnership will engage financial institutions to validate research outcomes and better understand evolving cybersecurity needs and challenges.
