The Central Bank of Ecuador reported that the economy grew 2.1% year on year in the second quarter of 2026, supported by financial and insurance activities, trade and manufacturing. Household consumption rose 3.5% and gross fixed capital formation increased 10.0%, contributing about 2.2 and 2.0 percentage points to growth, respectively. Gross domestic product contracted 1.3% from the first quarter as investment fell 4.0% and household consumption declined 0.9%, partly offset by a 0.7% increase in exports. Monthly data indicated a subsequent pickup, with the Economic Activity Index rising 7.9% year on year in July, driven mainly by a recovery in oil activity. Oil and mining output increased 102.0% and contributed 4.1 percentage points, while non-oil activity grew 3.0%. Economic activity expanded 2.9% in the first seven months of 2026.
