The Hong Kong Monetary Authority issued an alert following Dah Sing Bank, Limited’s report of a fraudulent website and a social media account related to the bank, and linked to the bank’s press release via the HKMA website. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email, or SMS. It advised anyone who has provided personal information or carried out financial transactions through or in response to the fraudulent website or social media account to contact the bank using details in the bank’s press release and to report the matter to the Police.
