The Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering published an update on a three-day International Cooperation Review Group support visit to Nepal held from 18-20 May 2026, aimed at helping the government complete the reforms and operational progress needed under its action plan. The main outcome was a renewed political and technical commitment in Nepal, alongside more targeted strategies to push forward urgent anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing measures needed for removal from the ICRG grey list. The visit combined high-level meetings and technical workshops with government, private sector participants and development partners to align stakeholders on the next steps in the ICRG process. Discussions focused on the costs of continued listing, options to fast-track action, and ways to sharpen Nepal’s risk-based approach by concentrating controls where risks are higher while easing them where risks are demonstrably low, with the aim of supporting financial inclusion and better resource allocation. Meetings with ministers and other senior officials also highlighted commitments to stronger interagency cooperation, workforce development and retention, and more targeted technical assistance to sustain anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing capacity beyond the ICRG process.
