The Securities and Exchange Board of India launched a “Verified” label on the Google Play Store for stock trading apps offered by brokers registered with SEBI, aiming to help retail investors distinguish genuine apps from fraudulent lookalikes. Implemented in collaboration with Google, eligible apps will display a “Verified” label on their Google Play Store listing, with the initiative set to be extended to apps of other regulated intermediaries. SEBI’s Chair urged investors to follow “Pehle Pechaan Kare, Fir Nivesh Kare!” and a “CVV” approach: check broker bank accounts using “SEBI Check” in SEBI’s Saa?thi app, validate UPI ID handles carrying the word “Valid” through “SEBI Check”, and verify apps by looking for the “Verified” label; Google Play’s Managing Director, Aditya Swamy, described the move as a public-private partnership and indicated openness to further collaboration.
