The Zimbabwe Insurance and Pensions Commission (IPEC) reported that Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube toured its newly acquired offices at 90 Speke Avenue in Harare, which are undergoing phased renovations intended to house all staff at a single site once completed. The Minister met the IPEC Board, management and staff, and commended the Commission for securing a dedicated building. During the visit, the Minister positioned IPEC as a regulator of key parts of the non-banking financial services sector, including pensions and short-term and long-term insurance. He highlighted IPEC initiatives including the development of Zimbabwe-specific Mortality Tables, referenced its international profile including hosting the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors Annual Conference in 2023, and pointed to the Farmer’s Basket parametric insurance programme launched in the 2023/2024 agricultural season in Goromonzi, developed with Government, the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe, the Access to Insurance Initiative and the International Finance Corporation. The Minister also acknowledged macroeconomic challenges affecting the insurance and pensions industry and indicated that Government is working to address them.
