The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) ordered the cessation of unauthorised insurance intermediation carried out through two websites offering insurance services without authorisation: www.milano.lionellosrl.com (milano.lionellosrl.com) and www.preventivi.lionellosrl.com (preventivi.lionellosrl.com). Blocking measures by providers operating in Italy are underway, with full technical implementation potentially taking several days. The cease-and-desist orders are published in the “Defend ourselves from scams” section of the IVASS website. The total number of websites subject to IVASS cease-and-desist orders since it began exercising blocking powers in November 2023 has risen to 222. IVASS also reiterated consumer guidance to apply caution when evaluating insurance offers via the internet, phone or instant messaging, particularly for temporary motor third-party liability policies, and to verify before paying premiums that quotations and contracts relate to duly authorised insurers and intermediaries by consulting IVASS registers and lists, including the Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI) and the lists of supervised insurers permitted to operate in Italy.
