Payments Canada has added Adyen Canada Ltd to its membership, extending its roster under the broader eligibility introduced through 2025 amendments to the Canadian Payments Act. The move brings in another payment service provider and marks Adyen as the sixteenth new member admitted this year. The expanded framework now allows payment service providers as defined in the Retail Payment Activities Act, credit union locals that are members of a central, and clearing houses of systems designated under the Payment Clearing and Settlement Act to join Payments Canada. Membership sits alongside existing participation by the Bank of Canada, banks, life insurers, securities dealers, money market mutual funds and other deposit-taking institutions. Payments Canada said membership is a first step that allows eligible organizations to explore future participation in its payment systems, including the forthcoming Real-Time Rail.
