The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) published 2024 statistics on licensed insurance agents and brokers and set out supervisory steps to address increased switching of life insurance agents between insurers, alongside continued digitisation of licensing through its E-Licensing system. By end-2024, the total number of individual agents and brokers stood at 573,218, up 4.15% year on year. Life and non-life insurance agents totalled 232,799 and 20,895 respectively, while life insurance brokers rose to 131,022 and non-life insurance brokers reached 188,502, the highest level in five years. Licensing activity totalled 281,518 applications, comprising 118,262 new licences (up 2%) and 163,256 renewals (up 15.4%). The OIC flagged a higher rate of life agent switching between companies and instructed relevant insurers to review agents under their supervision, including cases of frequent switching without reasonable cause, non-transparent conduct, or inducing policyholders to buy new policies without considering actual risk; firms are expected to explain and adjust sales team management and reinforce service ethics. The licensing process uses E-Licensing with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to shorten verification and analysis time, and consumers can check intermediary licences via the “Khon Klang ForSure” app or the OIC website’s licence-check function.
