The Bank of the Lao, together with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), held a seminar on “Cyber/IT risks and financial risk analysis” aimed at strengthening supervisory capacity and supporting more robust cyber and IT risk management in Lao PDR commercial banks. The seminar ran from 17 to 21 February 2025 under the chairmanship of Ms Maniphon Intavanh, Deputy Head of the Commercial Bank Supervision Department, and brought together 32 officials from the Bank of the Lao’s accounting and finance, payment systems oversight, and information technology functions. Discussions covered cyber and IT risk management practices, including strengthening cyber security frameworks, conducting regular risk assessments, and improving incident response capabilities, alongside training on credit risk, concentration risk, market risk, interest rate risk in the banking book (IRRBB), operational risk and liquidity risk. IMF experts shared supervisory experience from multiple jurisdictions and recent case studies involving commercial banks.
