Mexico's National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) published its end-December 2025 capitalisation indicators for the commercial banking sector, reporting an Índice de Capitalización (ICAP) of 20.17%. All institutions were classified in early warning category I, indicating sufficient capital to absorb unexpected losses without the need for immediate solvency-related supervisory actions. The ICAP, defined as net capital over total risk-weighted assets, was accompanied by a Basic Capital Ratio (Coeficiente de Capital Básico) of 18.16% and a Core Capital Ratio (Coeficiente de Capital Fundamental) of 16.85%. The CNBV noted it periodically publishes on its website the ICAP, each institution’s systemic importance grading, and its position within the early warning framework; locally systemically important institutions also met the systemic risk capital surcharge in line with Basel III standards.
