The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT) ran an intensive course in Costa Rica from 24 to 27 February 2026 to prepare the country’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT) authorities for an upcoming mutual evaluation. Delivered as part of GAFILAT’s pre-evaluation technical assistance to member countries and supported by experts from the Kingdom of Spain, the programme covered technical and institutional elements of the AML/CFT framework with a particular focus on effectiveness. The course also worked through the stages of the mutual evaluation process and the key areas that will be assessed, with participation from GAFILAT’s Executive Secretariat and representatives of Costa Rica’s main competent authorities.
