The Central Bank of Costa Rica announced that the Constitutional Chamber dismissed a constitutional challenge filed by the Costa Rican Banking Association and confirmed the Bank’s authority to request information for exclusively statistical purposes, in connection with a November 2022 information request made to the General Superintendency of Financial Entities. The action, filed in August 2023, also challenged provisions of the Central Bank of Costa Rica Organic Law (Law No. 7558) and the National Statistics System Law (Law No. 9694) cited as the legal basis for such requests. The Bank said the decision reaffirms that its Board agreements and broader actions to obtain information comply with the law and have an exclusively scientific objective, supporting the production of statistics, indicators, analysis and research.
