The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority has reported warnings against 197 operators suspected of involvement in investment fraud so far in 2026. Fake investment platforms remain the dominant model, with operators using claims involving new technology, cryptoassets or professional asset management, alongside professional-looking websites, fabricated reviews, celebrity articles and AI-generated content to appear legitimate. The authority has also identified clone scams impersonating established financial firms and recovery scams that charge advance fees to retrieve victims’ lost funds. It warned that previous victims face a heightened risk of being targeted again and advised consumers to verify firms against its company register and warning list, allow at least 24 hours to assess investment offers and never pay a fee to recover earlier losses.
