The European Commission has launched two initiatives under the EU financial literacy strategy aimed at improving the quality of financial literacy activity across the bloc. One seeks to identify and spread successful approaches through a call for submissions of existing financial literacy projects, while the other will convene stakeholders to help draft a voluntary European code of conduct for private and not-for-profit organisations active in this area. The best-practice exercise covers initiatives in investing, saving and financial risk literacy. Submissions are open until 30 October 2026, after which the Commission will assess them against three criteria in the submission template to identify common themes and the factors behind successful outcomes. Those findings will feed into a synthesis report for Member States, with the selected best practices to be discussed at the end of 2026 by the Government Expert Group on Retail Financial Services subgroup on financial literacy. For the code of conduct, the Commission is seeking stakeholders to join a roundtable that will help shape standards on transparent objectives, accurate and unbiased content, and safeguards to mitigate conflicts of interest. The call for participation remains open until 16 September, and selected participants will join a series of meetings supporting development of the code, which is expected to be adopted in the first quarter of 2027.
