The UK Financial Conduct Authority has warned that some consumers seeking debt advice are being steered toward fee charging solutions that may not suit their needs. Red flags include high pressure sales tactics, coaching consumers to alter financial information, failure to explain free alternatives and contact from people whose identity or details do not match those of an authorized firm. Consumers should seek free, impartial debt advice and use the FCA Firm Checker before considering a debt solution. The warning follows action against Curtis Faraday, which has been stopped from advising new customers after concerns that it led people to provide answers that made them appear eligible for fee charging individual voluntary arrangements. The FCA has also banned Beauforce Corporation Limited senior manager Howard Duckett for lacking honesty and integrity, and has urged consumers with debt management plans arranged through the firm to stop payments and seek alternative support.
