The Bank of Cape Verde has published its Savings Week 2026 program, with financial education activities scheduled for Oct. 21-31 and additional sessions on Maio island on Nov. 2-4. Under the theme “Saving Is Security,” the program will address budgeting, spending choices and regular saving through sessions tailored to students, youth sports schools, adults, merchants and young entrepreneurs. Youth activities will connect financial decisions with discipline and responsibility, covering the distinction between needs and wants, setting savings goals and managing personal and family budgets. Sessions for adults will focus on controlling household expenses and preparing for future costs or unexpected events. Merchants and young entrepreneurs will receive instruction on financial planning, prudent use of resources and separating personal finances from business finances. An Oct. 30 event at the bank will mark World Savings Day, observed on Oct. 31, with a discussion on savings challenges and strategies and the presentation of a savings video featuring batuque groups, young people and children. The Maio program will bring budgeting and savings sessions to primary and secondary schools, alongside a session for merchants and young entrepreneurs that also covers banks and financial services.
