Switzerland's Federal Department of Finance reported that the Federal Council has appointed Christoph Ammann, an existing member of the Swiss National Bank (SNB) Bank Council, as the Bank Council’s new vice president with effect from 1 May 2025. He will replace Romeo Lacher, who will stand down from the Bank Council on 25 April 2025. Lacher had announced in January 2025 that he would leave at the SNB’s next General Meeting of Shareholders; the General Meeting is responsible for electing a successor member, and the Bank Council has decided not to fill the resulting vacancy until 2026. Ammann is appointed for the remainder of the 2024–2028 term of office and has served as a member of the Cantonal Government of Bern and head of its Department of Economy, Energy and Environment since 2016, as well as vice president of the executive committee of the Conference of the Cantonal Governments, and has been on the SNB Bank Council since 2019.
