The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority reported that about 37,000 optional insurance policies for Egyptians working or residing abroad have been issued since an expanded version took effect on Aug. 1, generating approximately EGP 14.8 million in premiums. The uptake follows the addition of unfair dismissal protection to the existing personal accident policy under the authority’s cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For an annual premium of EGP 400, the policy provides up to EGP 100,000 when an employment relationship is terminated and the worker is repatriated for reasons beyond their control, including collective returns caused by political or economic conditions. It also covers permanent total disability resulting from an accident for up to EGP 250,000, as well as natural or accidental death benefits, including repatriation of remains. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue promoting the expanded coverage among Egyptian communities abroad, including at the seventh Egyptians Abroad Conference scheduled for September 2026.
