The Central Bank of Taiwan released its monthly overview of renminbi (RMB) business conducted by banks for December 2024. As of 31 December 2024, 65 authorised banks (domestic banking units, DBUs) and 56 offshore banking units (OBUs) were conducting RMB business, with total RMB deposits of RMB 119.10 billion and total discounts and loans of RMB 19.01 billion (figures shown as at end-November 2024). DBU deposits were RMB 87.89 billion and OBU deposits were RMB 31.21 billion, compared with RMB 91.29 billion and RMB 34.26 billion in the previous month. Discounts and loans stood at RMB 0.63 billion for DBUs and RMB 18.38 billion for OBUs, versus RMB 0.58 billion and RMB 18.87 billion previously, while no negotiable certificates of deposit were reported. Remittances in November 2024 totalled RMB 369.36 billion (DBUs RMB 192.22 billion and OBUs RMB 177.14 billion), up from RMB 265.29 billion in the previous month, and the Taipei Branch of the Bank of China handled RMB settlements of RMB 533 billion in December 2024.
