In remarks at the International Winds of Change Summit, Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced that the government will tender another 12,000 kilometers of national roads, in addition to roads being transferred to some provinces. The first 6,000 kilometers are expected to be launched soon, with the government proposing zero national, provincial and municipal taxes to encourage private investment and reduce development costs. Caputo also reiterated the government’s emphasis on fiscal and monetary discipline, private property, contract enforcement and greater competition rather than subsidies for selected businesses. He argued that continued policy orthodoxy would bring inflation toward international levels and attributed the record trade balance to improved competitiveness rather than solely to the exchange rate. He also referred to USD 150 billion of additional projects awaiting approval under the Incentive Regime for Large Investments.
