The Hong Kong Monetary Authority published an alert from Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited (HKICL) concerning eight fraudulent websites impersonating HKICL and offering fake “Buyer Online Protection” services for transactions over the Faster Payment System (FPS). The sites claim to provide buyer refunds, unauthorized transaction reporting and transaction support but have no affiliation with HKICL. HKICL does not directly provide FPS services to individual members of the public or ordinarily contact them proactively. The public should protect personal information, verify suspicious communications through official channels and report suspected fraud to the Police.
