The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority reviewed the first year of its regulatory sandbox for nonbank financial technology, reporting that it received 49 projects, granted preliminary approval to nine and moved two into live testing. The sandbox, previously identified as a core fintech priority, provides a controlled environment for testing technology against regulatory requirements before wider market deployment and has also given regulatory guidance to about 45 companies. The authority indicated that projects using artificial intelligence and advanced digital analytics will be a priority where they operate safely and comply with responsible supervision, personal data protection and service governance requirements. It also signed memorandums of understanding with four organizations to promote the sandbox, raise awareness and channel more innovative startups into the program.
