Nepal Rastra Bank announced a meeting between Governor Prof. Dr. Bishwanath Paudel and People’s Bank of China (PBOC) Governor Fan Yifei focused on opportunities and challenges in cross-border payments, investment and bilateral financial-sector cooperation between Nepal and China. Held alongside the Bank for International Settlements’ 20th Asia-Pacific High-level Meeting on Banking Supervision in Tianjin, the discussion covered emerging financial-sector practices, technology and innovation, and cooperation on contemporary issues. The governors also discussed facilitating QR-code payments for citizens travelling between the two countries and reducing associated costs, with Governor Fan indicating the PBOC’s readiness to modernise bilateral payment transactions and deepen cooperation, while Governor Paudel emphasised the need for ongoing coordination, communication and cooperation between the two central banks.
