The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued an alert about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens related to The Bank of East Asia, Limited, following a bank press release that has been reported to the HKMA and linked from the HKMA website. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to banks’ websites to carry out transactions, and will not ask for sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Password by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through or in response to the fraudulent websites or login screens should contact the bank using the contact information in the press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
