The Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force reported on a high-level visit to Damascus to support Syria’s preparations for its upcoming mutual evaluation and strengthen its framework for combating money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing. Meetings with senior government, central bank, financial intelligence, judicial, law enforcement and supervisory officials focused on political commitment, interagency coordination and compliance with Financial Action Task Force standards. Syrian authorities outlined recent legislative, regulatory and institutional reforms, including a national anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing strategy based on risk management and coordination among competent authorities.
